Hunting Season

The spring turkey hunting season was fair. We have weighed some nice birds but not as many as last year. Billy Boles got two toms 4-11-09. After shooting one 20 pound gobbler, another  ran up and attacked the flopping tom and Billy promptly put him  to flopping also. Congratulations to Billy! I hope your season had many memorable moments -- and a kill or two. The only hunting going on now is hog hunting. Everyone hunting is going early and finishing up early to keep from having heat strokes and running their dogs to death. Als, if youre going out, wear plenty of bug spray-- the deer ticks are thick.

Weekly Fishing Report

Lake Rusell's water temps are up to 77 degrees and upto 80 in the backs of coves. The crappie and bass for the most part have spawned out and moved back out in the 15 to 20 foot range. For the largemouth try shallow running cranks from the bank out to 15 feet of water. Also if fishing at night try dark colored lizzards off the points. We have in some new colors and styles of Sebiles plugs and just about every color lizard and worms that Zoom makes.  Eddie King stopped by with the 1st 3 pound crappie weve seen this year and said he came from Secesson. Maybe you will catch the next 3 pounder. Catfish are biting excellent on both lakes. Use red worms, chicken liver or cut herring. We have a good supply of live herring and many commercial stink baits. If youre setting basket, I have a limited supply of old style Meal Cake and 25 pound buckets of cheese. we also have some new PVC coated catfish baskets that are guarenteed not to rust for 10 years. Hey-- Stop in and check out all the new stuff and ask for your up to date fishing report. Reports are we have a new state record striper from Lake Russell. Congrats to Terry Mcconnell for breaking his own state record!! The new record is 63.4 pounds . What a fish!! We also checked in a heavy weight Lake Russell striper this week. Frank Anders caught a 42 pounder. Stop by and see his picture.
